Meet the Team.

All of our tutors are highly qualified in their subject area and have The Disclosure Scotland Certificate.


	Katy Hawker
	Second Flight was founded by Katy Hawker. Having achieved a BA honours degree in 1984 Katy worked in the Civil Service. However, her long held desire to teach prevailed and in 1987 she obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and became a full time primary teacher. Katy has taught in a variety of schools ranging from a small rural village school to a large inner city London school. On moving to Scotland in the year 2000 Katy studied for a Post Graduate Certificate in Literacy and Dyslexia at the Dyslexia Institute in Glasgow. Whilst working at the Dyslexia Institute she identified a need for a service in the Largs area. At Second Flight we aim to help students with dyslexia and students of all ages and abilities who need support in a variety of subjects in a confidential and caring environment. She is a member of the General Teaching Council and is on the approved tutor list for Dyslexia Scotland and North Ayrshire Council.
	Eddie Binnie
	Eddie Binnie is our vocal coach. Music is at the centre of Eddie's life, even more important than his accountancy practice, which he has given up to pursue his musical vision. Eddie has a deep understanding of the marriage between musical instruments and the voice as an instrument. He has been conducting choirs for over 30 years and currently leads three choirs in and around Glasgow. In addition he runs musical workshops. Eddie's approach to the teaching of singing changed greatly in 1995 when he first became aware of the positive use of motivational coaching in improving a students self respect and enabling them to sing with more confidence.
	Syl
	Syl is our volunteer tutor. She worked for 15 years with people who had visual and/or hearing impairments and additional learning and/or physical disabilities. Much of her work focused on supporting people to develop communication skills, enabling them to express themselves more effectively. She is a qualified social worker whose strengths lie in her ability to empathise with the individual and support and enable them to achieve their goals in a safe and caring environment.
